Civil Engineer - Project Engineer/Project Lead

You design it. Someone else owns it.

Five years in, you know your stuff. The package lands on your desk, you work it up, it goes out. Then someone else rings the client, someone else makes the call on what happens next, and you're back on the next package. Nobody has actually handed you a job and said: this one is yours.

That is what is on the table here.

This is a Sunshine Coast office inside a much larger multi-office consultancy, so there is real backing behind you, and the local team is small enough that you are not a number in it. The manager is currently running every project himself, and he is building a layer underneath him because the office has hit the ceiling of what it can deliver that way. You would take a couple of live jobs off him from the start, then pick up more as you prove you can carry them.

Before you go any further, the honest bit.

This is not a heads-down design role. You will be on the phone. You will answer to clients directly, including when the news is not good. Some weeks the enquiries will land faster than you can clear them and you will have to decide what waits. If what you want is a quiet desk and a clean 12D model, this is not it. That is a fair thing to want, it just is not this job.

What you get is a seat in a team that has not stopped growing, jobs of your own inside your first few months rather than a promise about next year, and a manager who wants you running things instead of protecting his patch. The step up is not dangled. It is the reason the role exists. If you would need to move to the Coast to take it, there is support available to help you do that.

As for what you need, an engineering degree and some design capability behind you. Whether that came through 12D or through reports and approvals matters less than whether you can hold a conversation with a client and make a call without checking first. Attitude counts for more here than the exact technical route you took in.
