Senior Civil Designer

Senior Civil Designer - Land Development

Role overview

Senior Civil Designer - Land Development

Brisbane (South)

No team-building days. No sandwich mornings. Just good work, good people, and out the door on time.

If that sounds like exactly what you’ve been missing, keep reading.

Is this you?

You’re a Senior Civil Designer who’s quietly good at what you do. You know 12D well. You understand land development and subdivision - the roads, the lots, the stormwater, the reticulation. You turn up, you do solid work, and you’d rather leave on time than stay late looking busy.

You’re not looking for a ping pong table or a culture committee. You just want a team that’s easy to work with, a manager who trusts you to get on with it, and projects that are actually interesting.

What you’ll be doing

You’d be joining a civil design team of 12 - all of them working on land development and subdivision projects, all of them there for the same reason you are. The work is focused. The environment is calm. There’s no pressure to perform for the sake of it.

Day to day, you’ll be producing civil design using 12D across residential estates, subdivision infrastructure, stormwater and drainage, road design, and water and sewer reticulation. This is a practice with decades of history in the Queensland development market - and the kind of place where most people, once they settle in, tend to stay. That says something.

At this level, you’ll be taking real ownership of the design phase - coordinating with councils and authorities, managing design correspondence, and guiding less experienced designers when they need it. It’s a senior seat, and it’s treated like one.

The role is primarily office-based in South Brisbane, with the option to work from home when you need to.

Your manager

Personable, experienced, and genuinely hands-off. The style here is simple - you’ll be given clear direction, the space to do your job well, and support when you need it. There’s no micromanagement and no performance theatre. What’s valued is straightforward: show up, do good work, go home.

What you’ll need

Around 10 years of civil design experience, with 12D as your primary tool. A background in land development or subdivision is important - that’s the work here, and it helps to already speak the language. You’ll be confident coordinating with councils and authorities and comfortable taking ownership of a project’s design phase without needing close oversight.

You’ll be comfortable managing your own output day to day and offering a guiding hand to less experienced members of the team - without it turning into a full management role.

This probably isn’t the right fit if you’re after a fully remote arrangement, or a large corporate practice with formal structures and progression frameworks. This is a smaller, unpretentious office. The people who thrive here tend to be the ones who didn’t want the other kind of place anyway.

What’s in it for you

A team that’s genuinely easy to work with. A manager who gives you room to breathe. Interesting land development work using 12D every day. A South Brisbane location that’s easy to get to. And the kind of low-key, stable environment that’s harder to find than it should be.
