Senior Structural Engineer

Senior Structural Engineer - Sunshine Coast

Role overview

Senior Structural Engineer - Sunshine Coast

Three years of "you're next in line" is long enough.

You already do the reviews. You already sort the juniors out when they're stuck, sit in front of clients when someone senior needs to be in the room, and carry the jobs nobody else wants to touch. What you don't have is the title, a say in how things run, or the money that goes with any of it.

This seat is open now. Not being held for someone. Not built around a person already in the business. The engineer who ran this team has moved on, so it's genuinely vacant, which means it's yours from day one rather than something you're queued behind.

The team is five or six structural engineers on the Sunshine Coast, within a national business with a couple of hundred structural people. That matters on the day you hit something you haven't done before, because there's a deep bench to ring. The day-to-day running of this office, though, is yours.

Two things worth being straight about before you go any further.

First, this is a working lead role, not an oversight job. You'll still be in the projects yourself. Design reviews, mentoring and client-facing work sit on top of your own load, not instead of it. If you're after the version of senior where you step out of the technical detail, this isn't it, and you'll be unhappy inside six months.

The second is that the office is quiet on senior presence some days. If you read that as space to run things your way, you'll do well here. If you read it as being left without backup, better to be honest with yourself now than at month three.

What you get in return is the thing most people at your level are still waiting for. Real autonomy, in an office small enough that your decisions actually stick, backed by a business big enough to carry the risk. In a larger office, you'd be doing the same work with three layers of approval sitting above it, and waiting on someone else to vacate a chair before any of it became official.

If you're not quite senior yet but you're clearly on your way, doing the work without the label, it's still worth a conversation. They're not hung up on where you sit on an org chart. It comes down to whether you can hold the technical line and bring people up and on the journey with you.

You don't need a polished CV for this. Send me whatever you've got, even if it's two years out of date, or call me on 0478 845 102 and we'll talk it through first. If it's not right, I'll tell you straight, and you've lost twenty minutes.

Worth a confidential conversation?

You do not need a polished cover letter. Send your CV, or tell us enough to start a conversation. We will discuss the role properly before anything goes further.
